Frequently Asked Questions
Is your service available nationwide?
We are based in East Yorkshire but we can help you located Grave Tending Services throughout the UK.
Why use a Grave Tending service?
Our clients come from a wide variety of backgrounds, ages and circumstances. Some of the reasons our clients choose to use a Grave Care service include but are not limited to: - Living too far away from the resting place of a loved one, family member or friend
- Work schedules and busy lives that do not allow them to visit and care for the grave as often as they would like
- Older clients who are physically unable to visit the grave of a loved one or unable to undertake maintenance tasks required
- Those who simply appreciate attending the gravesite without having to perform maintenance tasks
- Clients who find it emotionally difficult to visit the gravesite but find peace knowing their loved ones resting place is taken care of
- Family and friends who would like a floral tribute delivered on a special day or time of year such as Christmas, Easter, Mother's Day/Father's day, anniversary or a birthday
Whatever the reason, our clients find peace and solace knowing their loved ones are taken care of. All our work is executed in a respectful manner and to a high standard.
Can I choose the day that you visit?
For our regular care plans we tend to use our best judgement and monitor weather conditions to guide our visits. However, we will always take requests into consideration and do our best to accommodate them. For example, if you are planning to personally visit on a particular day, please let us know and we will avoid attending at the same time.
With regards to flower tributes for special occasions, then yes! We understand it is important for your loved ones to be remembered on a special day and will do our best to accommodate this and ensure their tribute is laid.
For one off, annual and deep cleans we are happy to discuss time frames to suit both parties.
Don't cemeteries maintain graves?
Most cemeteries and churchyards offer little more than the mowing of lawns around graves, and rough edging. They do not have the resources to trim and inspect each individual memorial. The ultimate responsibility for maintaining the grave rests with the family and friends not with the cemetery, since the families purchase the gravesite for their loved ones.
What are the primary services performed?
Each visit by one of our Flower Fairies grave carers includes the following general maintenance: Trimming of grass around headstone, edging of plot, removal of weeds, removal of all debris (old flowers, plants and other litter), washing of memorial pot liners, cleaning of headstone/memorial. We will also document the monument condition and recommend measures that may be needed to protect the monument long-term.

What if I don’t know the grave number?
If you can provide us with the grave location number, we can easily find the location. But don’t worry if you don’t have this, we can locate it for you for a one off fee of just £25.
When will the services be performed?
We will schedule the work once we receive your order. We do require at least ten working days before we can make our first visit to the grave. Therefore, if you choose our Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum Care Packages, we will endeavour to fulfil any special day visits, but these cannot be guaranteed, if they fall within these first ten days. All grave tending services are undertaken Monday to Friday., but occasionally we also work Saturdays & Sundays. If you choose our Deluxe Package, tending will be completed no more than two days before your chosen date.
Do you provide fresh cut flowers, bulbs and plants?
We offer a large selection of bulbs, plants and flowers depending on the season. Our specialist Flower Fairies will choose what is most appropriate for your grave, based on the time of year, its type, size and location, and any personal preference that you may have from our selections (depending on availability). All of our selections have been carefully chosen based on the appropriateness for UK cemeteries and churchyards.
Do you provide restoration services?
If we believe that the memorial or kerb edging requires some repairs and/or additional maintenance, we will provide you with detailed photographs and a written report. We can also provide you with a ‘no obligation’ quotation on any work that needs completing at subsequent visits, including the replacement of old or ‘lost’ grave vases, the renewal of stone/pebble/slate chippings, or any turfing or topsoil work. A specialist monumental mason would carry out any repairs that may be necessary to the memorial or the inscription.
How will I know that the services have been completed?
We will notify you by email and provide a photograph as proof that work has been completed.
What is your service guarantee?
At The Flower Fairies Grave Tending Services incomplete service is unacceptable. If you are not pleased for any reason, please contact us and we will correct the issue. Please understand that occasionally the condition of the grave may be correctable only as a major restoration project.
Do we get to keep the grave pots placed on the graves?
No these are placed on a hire basis for the month, The Flower Fairies will not place the same designed Grave Pot within a 12 month period, unless requested.
